UPDATE: Support for the hairdressing community during coronavirus

Financial support for hairdressers and barbers during the coronavirus

The government has promised some welcome relief for businesses which struggle to survive under the lastest measures to control the spread of the coronavirus, “said Ian Egerton, National Hair and Beauty Federation (NHBF) president.

Assistance with financial support from government grants, coronavirus business interruption loan scheme, vat payments, self-employment assessment payments and support for self employed individuals has been extended to hair salons and barbers.

What other help and resources are available for salon owners?

There are petitions you can sign, protecting your mental health and wellbeing forums, the hair and beauty charity, online classes and feeds for you and your staff to stay motivated while at home on Social Media. The hairdressing community has come together on social media and post motivational videos daily to keep spirits high.

Now would be the time to introduce new ways of doing things for the salon and your clients.

· website upgrade or update, introduce an online service for clients to purchase hair products and tools. This could be used once the salon reopens.

· introduce tutorials on your website for your customers on how to do their hair at home, the perfect blow dry and way to style hair.

· weekly blow dry boot camp for the children, teaching them how to blow dry their hair or a beginners course on braiding. Keeping the interaction of your customers with you while at home.

· Pinterest boards for your salon on different hair colours, styles, cuts and finished looks that can be used in the salon for your clients.

· facebook and instagram updates – keep communication open to your clients, live feeds talking about the best way to keep hair healthy while at home, head massage techniques for perfect relaxation.

· new look for the salon on digital, send a questionnaire out to your clients asking them for their input on what they would like to see in the salon.

Work closely with your distributor/manufacturer sales representative on ideas for when your business opens again. Stay safe through this time and we will be stronger if we work together.
